The Book of Mormon

Things that excite us about Book of Mormon coming to The Kennedy Center: Mark Evans and Christopher John O'Neill as Elder Price and Elder Cunningham, the brilliant book and score by Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Robert Lopez, and this video of the 2012 Tony opening number. We mean, really; how awesome are those facial expressions?

You undoubtedly know Parker and Stone as the creators South Park, now in its 17th season on Comedy Central. They are masters of social satire and no strangers to creating engaging stories and musical numbers; no South Park links here, but we know you know ; ) Now, this dynamic duo and the incredibly talented Avenue Q lyricist, Robert Lopez, have won a total of 9 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score for The Book of Mormon.

Mark Evans as Elder Price is wonderful. We don't want to post too many Book of Mormon videos for those of you who want to be surprised, so check out this video of him and Nikki Davis singing As Long As You're Mine from the musical Wicked. Love it. His other credits include Brad in Rocky Horror Picture Show and Curly in Oklahoma.

Christopher John O'Neill marks his professional debut as Elder Cunningham. But, you may also know him as one-half of the sketch comedy duo The Chris and Paul Show. Disclaimer: not all of their videos are appropriate for all ages. If he brings that energy to the Kennedy Center stage, he's sure to be a hit.

Book of Mormon is the story of two young Mormon elders sent on a mission to a Northern Ugandan village under the control of brutal warlord. But as they soon learn, the local population is far more worried about their safety than the message of the young missionaries. Will their naiveté send their mission off course? Curtains up July 9th through August 18th, and tickets are almost gone, so move fast!
