This walking tour will share the history of the Japanese and Japanese American community in Colorado and Denver, as well as the history of earlier immigrants to Lower Downtown Denver. The Chinese arrived in the 1870s and a thriving Chinatown once sat in the blocks next to where Sakura Square now stands. But an anti-Chinese race riot in 1880 began the slow dissipation of the Chinese from the area, and led to the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, which banned further immigration of Chinese to the US.
