The Power of Horses Member Preview
How have horses shaped the history of Colorado and the West? This exhibition will explore the ways in which human cultures have adapted to and utilized horses, from North America’s ancient horses to their modern counterparts. Powerful photographs and artifacts, including a 19th-century Ute saddlebag, a contemporary charro suit, a women’s rodeo shirt worn for the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo, and more will guide visitors through Colorado history on horseback. Encountering horses as working animals, sources of entertainment, treasured companions, or symbols of freedom, visitors will gain insight into and appreciation for the numerous ways that horses have shaped Colorado communities.\
