September 2019 Downtown Chapter Meeting
Topic: Technology Tug-of-War: How Broad Adoption of New Tech Innovations Make the Balance of Compliance, Security, and Privacy a Greater Challenge Speaker: Daniel Ayala CISO and Privacy Officer, Secratic Abstract: Find the balance on competing ropes in the tug of war. In this talk, we will review a few of the technologies being more broadly adopted by organisations globally, including blockchain, IoT, smart devices, ml, personalization, advanced biometrics, and why technologists (and businesses) are so excited to put them in. We will also cover a number of the risks with each of these technologies as we know them today, how to support innovation and keep on the right side of the law and customer sentiment while not stifling the drive to move the business (and these technologies) forward. We will also take a look ahead and share some thoughts on what the "next-gen tech" landscape looks like over the new few years; some things to keep an eye on as they develop. Bio: Daniel Ayala is the Founder, Chief Information Security Officer and Chief Privacy Officer for Secratic, a strategic security and privacy consultancy. Throughout his 24 year career, he has led security organizations large and small in banking and financial services, pharmaceutical, information, library and technology companies around the world, spent four years teaching college, has been published in scholarly journals (those are the ones that it is OK to use as references in research projects), and has been an invited speaker at conferences on five continents.
