Small Press Expo (SPX) is an annual festival in North Bethesda at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center that celebrates independent and small-press comics. The event brings together cartoonists, publishers, and fans for exhibitor tables, panels, portfolio reviews, and culminates with the presentation of the Ignatz Awards honoring outstanding achievement in independent comics. SPX is notable for its focus on creator-owned work and for serving as a major gathering for the alternative comics community in the Washington, D.C., area.
